Procurement Pathways

There are numerous methods of procurement within the construction industry of today, BP Construction Ltd is proficient in all formats. Further exploration of the different types is to be seen below.

Traditional Tendering. The client has progressed their design to building consent approved by the local council. Said design is then sent to various main contractors for pricing purposes, which is submitted within a given time period. The submissions are then assessed on their price and non-price attributes, with the contract subsequently being executed with the preferred contractor accordingly. Traditional tendering allows the client to secure a main contractor from the open market in competitive circumstances, based on pricing of the approved design.

Negotiated Contracting (preferred and recommended) - This can be several different formats, GMP (guaranteed maximum price), Charge Up / P&G Margin (preliminary and general and margin costs), Design and Build, or via the Early Contractor involvement (ECI) process. The latter two are the preferred method recommended by BP Construction Ltd.

All give the opportunity for the main contractor to be involved in the project at it’s infancy, providing their expertise, construction knowledge and recommendations regarding optimization of design, material selections, buildability and budget. The negotiated approach promotes a transparent, innovative and collaborative approach, together the team can develop the clients’ scope (wants, needs, requirements, expectations) to a design and scope ready for building consent. The market is constantly engaged for up to date pricing throughout the process, ensuring effective risk management, and an accurate budget, thus avoiding un-attainable financial expectations.
